Let’s just be real for a second, the mental toll of social media is no joke. I’ve spent over 10 years swimming in the deep end of the digital world, and if I didn’t figure out how to protect my peace, I would’ve lost myself in the scroll. This is about how to survive it — and thrive in it — with grace, boundaries, and a whole lot of self-trust.
Not Everyone Is Going to Like You (Let That Sink In)
Once I accepted that I’m not for everyone, I stopped wasting energy trying to be. I show up authentically, and the people who are meant for me will stay. Everyone else? Exit stage left or get blocked.
Subreddits, Snark Forums & Digital Pitchforks
When people don’t like themselves, they find joy in tearing others down. That has nothing to do with you. If you find yourself in one of those forums? Log out. Don’t give it oxygen. You don’t need to defend yourself to people committed to misunderstanding you.
You Can’t Respond to Everything
It’s completely unrealistic to think you can have 20 conversations a day with different people. Respond when you can, don’t worry about when you can’t. The people who are really in your corner are going to keep showing up no matter what. Silence is a power move.
You’re Allowed to Take Breaks
Breaks are not bad for business. I take breaks unapologetically — not with a long announcement, not with a dramatic disappearing act. I just log off, take care of myself, and come back when I’m full again.
Block Who You Want. No Explanation Needed.
If someone disrespects you or your community, they lose access. Simple. You don’t owe strangers the benefit of the doubt. Protect your peace like your life depends on it — because sometimes, it does.
Shedding People As You Grow? It’s Normal
As you grow, some of the people who once cheered you on will turn on you. Growth feels like rejection to people who are stuck. Grieve it. Mourn it. Then keep going. Because your growth isn’t up for negotiation.
Grace Is Your Superpower
Navigating this life online with grace, compassion for yourself, and discernment for others will keep you sane. You are allowed to curate your digital experience. You are allowed to grow without guilt. You are allowed to win, even if it makes some people uncomfortable.
